Centre for European Studies - Visiting Fellow Programs

February 2016 to October 2016

Closing date: 15 December 2015

The Visiting Fellowship Program at the Centre for European Studies at the Australian National University (ANU) is part of the Centre’s mission to promote research, education and dialogue between Europe and Australia. The Visiting Fellowship Program is specifically aimed at supporting and hosting local and international scholars wishing to undertake research at the Australian National University.

Research themes

The ANU Centre for European Studies is a multidisciplinary centre, and is part of the ANU Colleges: College of Arts and Social Sciences, ANU College of Law, ANU College of Business and Economics, College of Asia and the Pacific, and College of Medicine, Biology and Environment. Our academic activities are organised around four multidisciplinary research platforms that align with EU-Australian priority areas of cooperation:

• Environment and Sustainability;
• People, Movement and Borders;
• Governance, Citizenship and Policy; and
• Creative Cultures and Connections.

Please note that while priority is accorded to applications addressing these themes, proposals outside these themes will also be considered.

Types of fellowships

This Fellowship is for a period between one and six months. The grant can be used towards economy airfares and accommodation for the Visiting Fellow. The maximum contribution for travel and accommodation is AUD$3,500. This financial assistance is not a salary replacement. Post-doctoral and early-career academics are encouraged to apply.

Conditions of Fellowships and Scholarships

If successful, Visiting Fellows must be in residence at the ANU throughout the duration of their fellowship.

The Visiting Fellowship offer does not constitute an offer of employment with the University.

Visiting Fellows are provided with office space and a networked computer providing access to the Internet and email. The Centre also provides some administrative support. In addition, Visiting Fellows are welcome to make use of the University’s libraries.

Visiting Fellows are invited to participate in the Centre’s outreach and teaching activities, including the seminar series, roundtables, workshops, conferences, the European Studies Summer School and the Graduate Intensive Course.

About the Centre

The ANU Centre for European Studies Centre (ANUCES) was established in 2001 as a joint initiative of the ANU and the European Union. It underscores the university-wide commitment to European studies. Located at the heart of diplomatic and political life in Canberra, ANUCES now involves the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences, ANU College of Law, ANU College of Business and Economics, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, and ANU College of Medicine, Biology and Environment.

ANUCES aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, generate collaborative research projects at home and abroad, and contribute to the development of public sector policy and debate. The Centre has an established record of leadership in EU studies within the context of the wider Asia-Pacific region. The Centre supports postdoctoral and doctoral research, and visiting scholars working in the field of EU and comparative studies concerning Australia and Europe.

The Centre maintains close links with other Australian and New Zealand EU Centres.
