ANU Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Project - Understanding EU Trade: A Guide for Australian Stakeholders
As the trade negotiations between Australia and the European Union get underway, this EU funded Jean Monnet Project helps Australian policy makers, industry and civil society understand EU trade policy.
The project consists of training workshops to be run in Canberra and in Australian states and territories; a resource pack; and a regular e-newsletter. The training is designed to support stakeholders who may have little or no familiarity with the EU, giving them access to expertise and accessible materials on EU trade.
The project aims to enhance knowledge of:
• the EU’s origins and external character;
• how EU institutions work, particularly in relation to trade;
• how Australia-EU relations have changed in recent years;
• the breadth of EU policy now relevant to Australia; and
• the EU’s core values, priorities and challenges.
The project seeks to ensure that Australian debate about the forthcoming trade negotiations is based on a sound understanding of the EU and its core values.
