Travelling Together in Challenging Times

Greece assumes the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the fifth time. As a Member State which has experienced the impact of the financial and economic crisis in Europe, Greece is in a position to contribute in the collective response to the challenges faced by the Union today. The spirit of this endeavour is reflected in the theme of the Hellenic Presidency: “Europe is our common quest and journey - united we sail further”.

Ambassador Dafaranos will refer to the priorities of the Hellenic Presidency and report on the progress achieved. He will also speak about the Greek experience of the crisis, the importance of European solidarity, the commitment to fiscal adjustment and structural reforms.

Ambassador Haris Dafaranos is a career diplomat. Born in Athens in 1955, he studied Law and English Literature. He joined the Hellenic Diplomatic Service in 1980. He has served in Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem, Sweden, South Africa, India, West Africa and in Australia since November 2012. He is married to Mrs Eva Dafaranos and they have a 24 year old son Dionyssios.
