Monday 11 December 2017

Dr Richard Reid, a Europa Fellow at the ANU Centre for European Studies - a centre of SPIR - has published recently published his paper entitled ‘The House of Lords: Conventions and Brexit’.

The paper is the culmination of Richard’s Europa Fellowship. It was launched in London on 1 December and published by The Constitution Society, an independent, non-party educational foundation which works to promote informed debate about constitutional reform.

Richard’s paper examines the role of the House of Lords in Britain’s exit from the European Union, focusing on the future passage of the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill in the House of Lords. It begins with a discussion of conventions that provide a guide to the potential behaviour of the House of Lords towards Brexit, and highlights the work of committees in considering the issues. The paper then outlines three possible scenarios.

Congratulations, Richard!
