Thesis topics

Good Living is part of the Ecuadorian Constitution as a result of class and racial tensions that were transformed into legal form, once the collapse of key political and economic power structures allowed for the inclusion of the urban poor, peasants and indigenous population as political actors.

Carlos is undertaking a PhD within the School of Politics and International Relations titled: ‘Good Living: explaining the emergence of new legal principles in Ecuador’s 2008 Constitution’. Carlos began his PhD in September 2014 and expects to submit by mid 2018. Prior to commencing his studies at the ANU, Carlos worked for various government institutions in Ecuador and consulted for the UNDP – Ecuador. Carlos has tutored Principles of International Relations, Development and Change and International Political Economy at the ANU. His research interests also focus on comparative constitutional law, deliberative democracy, Latin America, collective rights, environmental sustainability and intergenerational responsibility.
