Carlos’ research brings together social theory, political economy and international relations with a focus on the making of Latin American and postcolonial socio-technical and economic realities. His current research focuses on the translations of 'socialist expertise' in Venezuela and Ecuador into novel technical, economic knowledges and practices in the making of left turn Latin America oil political economies. His research looks in detail at the role these economic knowledges and practices play in the Petrocaribe energy cooperation program and Ecuador’s Yasuní-ITT Initiative, constituting a novel category of oil politics, namely, ‘critical oil politics’.
