Michael Moran is a graduate of the universities of Lancaster and of Essex, UK.  He received his PhD in Government from Essex in 1975. He taught at the University of Manchester, UK, until 2011, retiring as WJM Mackenzie Professor of Government.

He is now adjunct Professor of Government and Business in the University of Manchester Business School. 

He has written widely on the regulation of labour and financial markets, on British and EU politics, and on the comparative study of regulation and public policy. 

His most recent publications include The British Regulatory State (Oxford University Press 2007); Business, Politics and Society (Oxford University Press 2009.)  He is presently chiefly interested in business and government.  After the Great Complacence: Financial Crisis and the Politics of Reform, of which he is a co-author, is published by Oxford University Press in late 2011.
