Ian McAllister is Professor of Political Science in the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University. He was previously Director of the School (1997-2004) and has held chairs at the University of New South Wales and the University of Manchester.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and an Honorary Professor at the University of Aberdeen. He has held visiting positions at the Center for the Study of Democracy, University of California, Irvine; the Institute of Governance, Public Policy and Social Research, Queen’s University of Belfast and the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation, University of Warwick. In mid-2006 he will be a POSC fellow at the East-West Center, University of Hawaii.
He is currently Editor of the Australian Journal of Political Science, and is Chair of the Planning Committee for the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems. He has been a co-Director of the Australian Election Study since it was established in 1987.
