Small Research Grants

Who can apply?

ANU staff and students who are ANCLAS affiliates and meet the eligibility criteria, as well as relevant Visiting Fellows.

When are applications due?

Bernard Wheelahan Latin American Scholarship

Through the generosity of Pacific-Hydro Pty Ltd a scholarship has been established in perpetuity to help students meet the costs of studying at a Latin American university for one semester or undertaking fieldwork towards higher degree research.

Mr Bernard Wheelahan chaired the Council on Australia-Latin America Relations from its inception in 2001 until 2010. He has had extensive business experience in Latin America and has been a major force in strengthening ties between Australia and the region.

Who can apply?

ANU undergraduate, MA, and PhD students who meet the eligibility criteria and are planning travel to Latin America for study abroad or fieldwork.

When are applications due?

  • Annual application, 2021 – TBA due to COVID-19 travel restrictions
     

COALAR grants 2021/22 - Invitation for applications

The Council for Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) Grant Round for 2021-2022 opened on Monday 19 July 2021 and will close at 4.00pm AEST Friday 10 September 2021. The deadline for grant-related questions to the COALAR Secretariat will be: 5.00pm AEST Thursday 9 September 2021.

The Council seeks grant applications for projects that can be undertaken between the period: 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023 in: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Applications are sought particularly on projects that address COALAR’s 2021 Business Plan Strategies and focus theme of sustainability.

Grant limits are: minimum of $10,000 (GST exclusive); maximum of $50,000 (GST exclusive). Applications should be made through the SmartyGrants application. Note that projects must be underway by at least 30 June 2022 to meet funding requirements of the 2021-2022 budget.
