Interested in migration and cultural studies? Want to know more about the challenges of integrating people of diverse backgrounds to form a common political culture? What kinds of cultural responses are emerging in grassroots Europe? How do different kinds of histories and forms of remembering inform identity and citizenship?

This intensive Summer School will bring undergraduates to Berlin to learn about European immigration and integration challenges. Study topics include: Islam in Europe; multiculturalism; relationship between culture and citizenship; memorialisation versus community-based memory-making; refugee documentary; political change. The academic focus is enhanced by opportunities to engage with the first-hand experiences of European migrants, curators of cultural institutions, NGOs, and government officials. Taught over six days by academic faculty from The Australian National University and Indiana University, the Summer School will also draw on academic expertise from German universities and cultural institutions. Application to the course is competitive and limited to only 25 students from these participating universities:

• Victoria University of Wellington

This Summer School is jointly run by the above universities as part of the Jean Monnet PPCEUMI network and will be taught in English. Students will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the Summer School and associated assessment tasks.

1. Write a 200-word statement explaining why you wish to undertake this Summer School and how it would further your studies.
2. Submit your 200-word statement with an electronic copy of your academic transcript and the details of two academic referees by email to europe@anu.edu.au by 1 April 2020.
