On 10 November, the Australian Centre for Federalism held the inaugural Brazil Update. The webinar reunited leading election and party experts on Brazil who presented and discussed the outcome of Brazil’s Presidential election that concluded on 30 October 2022.

This event was co-sponsored by the Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS).

Participants:

Associate Professor Tracy Beck Fenwick, Associate Professor of Political Science at the ANU, and Director of the Australian Centre for Federalism, author of the book Avoiding Governors: Federalism, Democracy, and Poverty Alleviation in Brazil and Argentina (University of Notre Dame Press).

Professor Oswaldo Amaral, Professor of Political Science at the University of Campinas, Brazil, and Director of the Centre of Public Opinion Studies (CESOP); author of the book Transforming the Internal Party Organization of the PT from 1995-2009 (Alameda Press)

Dr. Thiago Nascimento da Silva, Lecturer of Political Science at the ANU. In his most recent published research, Thiago examined the consequences of coalition governments on voter behaviour and party competition, and the role of the opposition on coalition governance.
