Professor Ian McAllister from the School of Politics and International Relations, has recently been adjudged joint winner of the Leon Weaver award for the best paper presented at a panel sponsored by the Representation and Electoral Systems Division at last year's American Political Science Association conference.  The award was made in Seattle at the Association’s 2011 conference.

The award committee chaired by Caroline Tolbert (Iowa) and comprising Miki Kittilson (Arizona) and Jeff Karp (Exeter) were unanimous in their praise for the paper, "The Personalization of Election Campaigning Within a Compulsory Voting System".

Professor McAllister is Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the Australian National University, and from 1997 until 2004 was Director of the Research School of Social Sciences at the ANU.  He leads the Australian Election Study, a national survey of political opinion conducted after each federal election since 1987. More information on this project can be found here.

His most recent books are The Australian Voter (UNSW Press, 2011) and Political Parties and Democratic Linkage (co-author, Oxford University Press, 2011).
