Directors’ PhD Scholarship for the Study of Australian Politics
Monday 12 October 2020

The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) at the Australian National University is seeking applications for the inaugural Directors’ PhD Scholarship for the Study of Australian Politics. The ANU is located in the centre of Canberra, Australia's National Capital, and is a short distance from Australia's titular political and cultural institutions.

This Scholarship is designed to support domestic research students wishing to study any facet of Australian politics under the supervision of faculty within the School . The ANU is a world leading research institution and the School of Politics and International Relations is ranked 10th in the world and 1st in Australia in the 2019 QS rankings of the world's top 202 universities. SPIR is a dynamic and research-oriented department with 30 scholars researching and teaching in political science and international relations. It is home to the Centre for the Study of Australian Politics.

We offer PhD students a comprehensive series of methods and theory courses in their first year of study. In addition to their scholarship, the successful applicant will also have access to funding to conduct fieldwork, attend conferences/workshops (international and domestic), and additional methods training if required. Finally, we offer a collegiate and supportive environment for the next generation of researchers to undertake their training and research.

The scholarship will commence in the academic year 2021. Applicants should consult the web-pages of staff in the School to identify (and approach) possible supervisors. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake the program full time and be located in Canberra.

To apply, applicants must complete a PhD scholarship form by 31 October 2020.
