On 5 November, the United States will witness one of the most competitive and unprecedented presidential elections in recent history: From Donald Trump’s distinctive campaigning style to the unexpected Democratic nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris, alongside politically motivated violence and increasing political polarisation among the American electorate, the future of American democracy seems uncertain.

The ANU School of Politics and International Relations invites academics, students, and interested attendees to join an expert panel discussion on the 2024 presidential election and its potential implications for the future of American democracy and beyond, the realities facing women and minority groups, and the role of the United States on the global stage.

  • Professor David Smith (United States Studies Centre - University of Sydney)
  • Associate Professor Jana von Stein (SPIR - ANU)
