'How Politicians Evaluate Public Opinion' (POLPOP, formally known as POLEVPOP) is an internationally collaborative comparative research project. It seeks to understand how politicians fulfil their roles as elected representatives.

This project is funded by the European Research Council. The overall project lead is Prof Stefaan Walgrave of the University of Antwerp.

In Australia, the project is led by Dr Marija Taflaga and Professor Patrick Dumont (Australian National University) and Professor Annika Werner (University of Southampton and ANU Visitor of the Australian National University’s School of Politics and International Relations).

This project is ongoing and the 2025 wave of data collection will commence soon. The aim is to compare Australia with the other fourteen countries included in the study and to compare Australian politicians’ and voters’ responses over time.
