Gender and Politics Workshop
Thursday 18 May 2023

A workshop on Gender and Politics was held on 15 May 2023 at the School of Politics and International Relations. The workshop brought together diverse gender and politics research from across the ANU campus to share and discuss their work in-progress.

Faculty and graduate students at the Australian National University presented and received feedback on in-progress work on Australian politics, comparative politics, and Asia and Pacific regional politics. A keynote address entitled Research and publishing in gender and politics: state of the field was provided by RSSS Visiting Fellow Associate Professor of Politics Jennifer M. Piscopo, Occidental College. The keynote presentation discussed whether gender research has become mainstream in Political Science and provided helpful advice on publishing gender research in Political Science journals. Dr Piscopo’s research focuses on gender, political representation, and elections and has appeared in over 30 academic journals. She also consults regularly for UN Women and other international organisations on the topic of increasing women's participation in politics. She is incoming co-editor (with Phillip Ayoub) of The European Journal of Politics and Gender.
